Disability EmpowHer Network Receives $10,000 from the Bernice Stauber Fund to Empower Girls with Disabilities in Monroe County

Dec. 16, 2022 - Disability EmpowHer Network was awarded a $10,000 grant from the Bernice Stauber Fund of the Rochester Area Community Foundation to support its EmpowHer Roc program focused on empowering girls and young women with disabilities.
Disability EmpowHer Network is a national organization led by and for girls and women with disabilities, headquartered in Rochester, NY. The $10,000 grant from the Bernice Stauber Fund will be used to support EmpowHer Roc, a program that provides an opportunity for girls and young women with disabilities (ages 10-21) in and around Monroe County to meet every month for a fun, skill building, and empowering event while connecting with peers and mentors.
“Our EmpowHer Roc program just launched this year and we’re already seeing the incredible impact it has had on the young women who participate” said Stephanie Woodward, Executive Director of Disability EmpowHer Network.”With the support of the Bernice Stauber Fund we’ve been able to expand our program and support more girls with disabilities. We’re so grateful to the Bernice Stauber Fund for believing in the potential of girls and women with disabilities!”
Since April, EmpowHer Roc has held fun and skill building programs every month, from a springtime scavenger hunt to creating vision boards with their goals to a recent baking event where girls made apple and pumpkin pies, then voted on which fall flavor they liked best.
“I love EmpowHer Roc! We always have a ton of fun and I’ve met new friends,” said Giana Bisnett, a young participant from Greece, NY.
Not only do the participants love EmpowHer Roc, but so do their parents.
“EmpowHer Roc continues to show Giana that she is limitless and not alone in her journey. Over the past year that Giana has been involved with EmpowHer, we have seen her blossom into an even stronger, braver young woman.” shared Giana's mom, Dana Bisnett.
