April 25, 2025 -The New York Bar Foundation grant program assists non-profit organizations with law-related projects  across New York state that facilitate the delivery of civil legal services to those in need, improve the justice  system and the law, enhance professional competence and ethics and increase public understanding of the law.

“Supporting the Foundation helps preserve a bedrock principle of our government – that everyone is entitled  to equal access to justice,” said the Honorable Cheryl E. Chambers, Foundation President. “Without these  vital programs that the Foundation and other charitable organizations support, justice would look very  different for those who can afford an attorney than for those who cannot.”

Disability EmpowHer Network recently received a grant from The New York Bar Foundation. The grant will be used to support their Know Your Rights: The Disabled Girl's Guide to College project. This program provides information to disabled women and nonbinary people planning for or attending college regarding their rights and resources. With support from The New York Bar Foundation, Disability EmpowHer Network will expand the reach of its resources including a free online guide and regular Know Your Rights workshops for women and nonbinary people with disabilities.

Stephanie Woodward, Executive Director of Disability EmpowHer Network said, “Thanks to The New York Bar Foundation’s support, we can reach more disabled women and nonbinary people with vital information about their rights in college. This grant helps us set them up for success by ensuring they know how to advocate for themselves and access the support they deserve. We are grateful for the Foundation’s support in breaking down barriers to justice and education for our community.”

The Foundation recently allocated more than $668,000 in grants to ninety-five programs across New York  State. Lucia Whisenand, chair of the Grants Review Committee, noted “The non-profits that we support  help make justice a reality for millions of people throughout New York State.”

The New York Bar Foundation is a 501(c)(3) charitable organization. To learn more about the Foundation  visit www.tnybf.org
